MODULE TITLE:

Drafting and Cutting Pattern for Casual Apparel

INTRODUCTION:

         This module deals with the knowledge, skills, and application towards Drafting and Cutting Pattern for Casual Apparel.

Nominal Duration: 6 hrs.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Plan garment design

2. Take client’s body measurements

3. Draft basic/block pattern

4. Manipulate pattern

5. Cut final pattern

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

1. Customer’s job requirements are determined in accordance with company’s practice.

1. Garment design is prepared in accordance with the client’s requirements.

2. Design and fabric are discussed and selected according to client’s specifications.

4. Special needs of the client are incorporated into the design based on procedures.

5. Measuring tools are prepared in accordance with job requirements.

6. Body measurements are taken based on procedures.

7. Body measurements of client are taken in sequence according to job requirements and standard body measurement.

8. Body measurements are recorded in line with company requirements/practice.

9. Drafting pattern tools are selected in accordance with job requirements.

10. Basic/Block pattern is drafted using appropriate equipment and customer’s specifications.

11. Drafted basic/block pattern is checked for accuracy based on customer’s specification.

12.  Block pattern is laid out in accordance with company procedures.

13.  Block pattern is manipulated in accordance with customer’s specifications.

14.  Final pattern is labeled, filled and secured as per standard operating procedures (SOPs).

15. Tools for cutting pattern are selected in accordance with job requirements.

16. Pattern is cut in accordance with customer’s specifications/measurements.

Introduction:

Pattern and body measurements both require measuring tools. To ensure a good fit, you will measure accurately with the best tool for the client’s satisfaction. You can easily use the following measuring tools depending on your needs.

Measuring Tools- are instruments used for obtaining quantities, dimensions or forces of real world objects.

 

 



 

L-square

 

 

a. Uses- it divides the garment into the desired measurement. It perfect squares and is useful in making straight lines and numbers. It can also function as a tape measure.

 

b. Characteristics- it has two arms connected perpendicularly.

i. The longer arm is twenty four inches long.

HOW TO TAKE CLIENT’S BODY MEASUREMENTS

 

 

Learning Objectives:

     After reading this information sheet, you will be able to gain knowledge on how to take client’s body measurement based on the correct procedure and in accordance to the prescribed standards. You will be able to follow correctly the salient measures to observe in taking client’s body measurements.

Introduction:

 Before the pattern is made, body measurements should be taken to determine the correct pattern size. After the pattern is made the pattern pieces should be measured and compared with the corresponding body measurements. The measurement taken should be identified and recorded the accurate measurement on the Individual Measurement Chart.

 

 


 



 

 

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedures:

 

There are several parts of the body to be measured. These are taken in:

1. Vertical measurement

2. Horizontal measurement

3. Circumferential measurement

 

 

Where and How to take Body Measurements

 

· Shoulder- measure from the tip of the left shoulder to the tip of the right shoulder.

· Back chest- measure from the left (back) armhole seam to the (back) armhole.

· Front Chest- measure from the left (front) armhole seam to the right (front) armhole seam.

· Bust- measure around the bust with the tape measure running on the same level in front at the back and on the sides.

· Tip of the Bust- measure from the center of the shoulder to the tip of the bust.

· Distance of the Bust- measure across from the tip of the tip of the bust.

· Empire level- measure from the center of the front shoulder over the bust down to the empire level which is directly below the bust.

· Empire Circumference- measure around the whole circumference of the empire level.

· Front Figure- measure from the center of the shoulder over the bust down to the waistline level.

· Back Figure- lay the tip of the tape measure on the center of the shoulder and run the tape measure over the shoulder blade down to the waistline level.

· Waist- measure along the whole circumference of the body at the waistline.

· First Hip – measure around the hip level where the stomach is fullest.

· Second Hip- measure around the hip level where the buttocks is fullest.

· Short Skirt- measure from the waistline level down to the desired skirt length for a short skirt.

· Long Skirt- measure from waist line level down to the desired level for a long skirt.

· Armhole- measure around the circumference of the armhole.

· Length of the Short Sleeve- measure from the tip of the shoulder down to the desired length of the short sleeve.

· Fullest Arm Circumference- measure around the upper arm and measure the desired width of the hem of the short sleeve.

· Elbow Length- measure from the tip of the shoulder down to the tip of the elbow.

· Three- fourth Length- measure from the tip of the shoulder over the elbow (with the arm slightly bent) to the ¾ length of the sleeve.

· Three- Fourth Circumference- measure along the whole circumference of the ¾ level of the arm with two fingers in at the end of the tape measure.

· Long Sleeve Length – measure from the tip of the shoulder over the elbow with arm slightly bent down to and after the wrist bone.

· Wrist- measure along the whole circumference of the wrist with two fingers in at the end of the tape measure for easing.

· Neck- measure around the whole circumference of the neck.
